Thank you to all for another successful Fire and Life Safety Conference. Attendance was the best yet, at 140. Speakers from across the country were brought in for presentations to code enforcers and fire and life safety educators. If you know of a topic or speaker that might be beneficial for next year’s conference, let the office or a Board member know.

On opening day, the Dick Arthur award was given out. It went to Dave Brinker, of the Lockport Township F.P.D. This is awarded for the fire prevention professional who dedicates his career to the cause of Fire Prevention, Life Safety, and Education in the manner that gives great honor to the fire service.

While this award was handed out last month, the IFIA will accept nominations at any time for any of our awards. The descriptions and details to nominate are found on our website.

Don’t forget to sign up for our mini seminar this month. It is on April 26 and will be on acceptance tests of sprinkler and fire alarm systems. Additional details and registration can be found in the weekly blast.

We offer OSFM certification classes for fire inspector and fire and life safety educator. Check our website for specific details. Please note that scholarships are available! We would like to award those, but you have to fill out a short application available on our website in order to receive that money. Do that now so you don’t miss out on some free money!

While the weather now does not look inviting, summer is not far away and that mean the Illinois State Fair. On August 18th we will be staffing the fire safety tent at the Fair. We certainly need your help to make this a success. While the tent hours are 10 – 4, we only ask for a few hours of time, which will leave you the rest of the time to enjoy the Fair. We will provide gate and parking passes for those participating.

Are you in need of education hours, or did you miss our recent our mini-seminars? We are making the recordings of our November and January mini seminars available. These classes are typically 2.5 – 3.5 hours. The cost of each class will be $20 for IFIA members and $25 for non-members. You can register on our website to receive a link. At that point we will invoice you and send you the appropriate link(s). The classes are:

A request from Camp I Am Me: As Camp I Am Me continues to identify ways to both reengage current FDs/Firefighter Unions who support us as well as work towards getting others from around Illinois on board, we have created an opportunity that would both highlight our appreciation for the fire service while also providing a chance for these groups to align with us, a fire service-oriented nonprofit.

The Fire Service T-Shirt Campaign is specific to the fire service and allows for fire departments, fire fighter unions, and fire service associations to join together to show their support for Camp I Am Me. For a nominal donation, their group would be included on a one-of-a-kind shirt that would be produced for our young campers and dedicated volunteer staff at Summer Camp, with extras being sold to supporters interested in purchasing.

If you are a business, and would like to support education of fire inspectors and fire and life safety educators, there is a way to do that. The IFIA Board has developed way for companies to become a sponsor of the IFIA. These are good for a calendar year. The details for the various levels are listed below.
